CASE STUDY

Network Rail

Network Rail required a Suicide Prevention Capability for the Sussex Route Area. FSI was invited to design and scope a specialist capability.

As a well-established security contractor on Network Rail infrastructure projects, FSI was invited to design and scope a specialist Suicide Prevention capability for the Sussex route area. FSI implemented a solution that was built on experience gained from military operations – the observation of defined areas and key points with the ability to trigger a fast response. The capability blended the use of local knowledge from reliable sources as well as Police intelligence. FSI formally trained its Suicide Prevention Teams in  de-escalation techniques through recognised Samaritans training courses and mobilised the teams to specifically identified areas where the maximum effect could be achieved.  Over the course of an eight week period FSI was able to reduce the incidents of suicide by almost 40%.
